DP World Tour's AI writes commentary on every shot, now in Korean too
With AWS, the tour's AI Shot Commentary describes each shot by every player on its website and app leaderboards; at the Genesis Championship in Korea it was also offered in Korean.
In depth · Summary of the source
At the Genesis Championship 2026 in South Korea, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the KPGA, AWS showcased the tour's AI Shot Commentary and Virtual Twin as its official cloud AI partner.
Key facts
- The tournament was played on 22–25 October 2026 at Woojeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan
- AI Shot Commentary runs on Amazon Bedrock and covers more than 25,000 shots per tournament
- The commentary appears in English on the DP World Tour website and app leaderboards; Korean was added at this event via Amazon Translate
- Three further systems, for venue operations, article drafts and media questions, are at proof-of-concept stage
What was done
AI Shot Commentary combines players' performance, course conditions and past records to automatically write a short text about each shot, for every player in the field and not just the leaders. It is text for fans on the web and in the app, not TV audio commentary. To keep facts accurate, it relies on verified tournament data together with Bedrock Guardrails and Automated Reasoning. Alongside it, the Virtual Twin recreates the course digitally from more than a million data points collected by thousands of sensors.
Results
The source describes the commentary and the Korean version as live at the event, but gives no figures on how many fans used them. A system that drafts articles is aimed at cutting writing time from hours to minutes; that is a goal, not a measured result.
Why it matters
In golf many players are on different holes at once, so human commentators cannot cover every shot; AI fills that gap and lets fans follow any player in their own language. Our observation: The Masters also uses AI at shot level, calculating the odds of each shot with IBM watsonx.
